Accessible first aid resources

A small step towards making first aid knowledge more inclusive.

Anyone can save a life, but not everyone has equal access to first aid advice. St John Ambulance want to make first aid advice as accessible and inclusive as it can be. As a first step, we’ve partnered with NHS England to create a range of accessible first aid resources.

These include BSL and easy read booklets, to share information in a way that more people can understand and use. All are completely free to view or download. We plan to continue improving and expanding our accessible first aid resources.

British Sign Language (BSL) first aid advice

This video uses BSL and on-screen text to demonstrate how to respond to a cardiac arrest. Members of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community such as Sarah, a First Aider from the West Midlands, joined us to create this resource for the community, by the community.

Watch to find out how to carry out a primary survey, perform CPR and use a defibrillator. The video also shows how someone deaf or hard of hearing might use a video relay service to access emergency help.

You can find more first aid advice topics in BSL on our YouTube channel.
