We offer several key services as England’s first aid charity. We operate an ambulance service and we train and equip volunteers to cover first aid care at events. We also offer first aid awareness education to communities. Everything St John Ambulance does is focused on helping people get the right care at the right time.
Our services
What does St John Ambulance do as a charity?
Event medical cover
At St John Ambulance, we have the largest group of first aiders in the UK. Our volunteers can be found at thousands of events every year, from Premiere League matches to music festivals, to car boot sales, and everything in-between.
At each one, they are ready to give high-quality care to any member of the public who needs it. With first aiders trained in how to manage a wide range of incidents and medical conditions on the scene, we offer practical help and reassurance.
Ambulance operations
Our ambulance services support the NHS, local communities, and other healthcare providers, helping over 150,000 patients every year.
Our non-emergency services run 365 days a year, transporting people who don’t have another way to access the medical care they need. We also assist in A&Es and provide specialist transport for critically-ill children and patients in end-of-life care.
Free first aid awareness sessions
In addition to our certified first aid courses, we offer schools and communities free, in-person sessions to help them learn life-saving skills.
In these sessions, tailored to different groups and ages, our volunteers demonstrate CPR, using a defibrillator, how to respond to choking, and more. It’s one more step towards creating first aid confident communities where everyone is ready and able to respond when needed.
What else does St John Ambulance do as a charity?
Throughout the year, we run and support campaigns which spread awareness of issues such as the CPR gender gap and educate the public on first aid guidance. We also update our website with free first aid advice and resources.
Through our partners, we also offer a free Will-writing service for those looking to create a simple but legally binding document of their wishes.
